Efficient and sustainable treatment of industrial wastewater using a tannin-based polymer

Paint, tannery and textile manufacturing wastewaters contain highly toxic organic biorefractory compounds have adverse effects on human health. These effluents require efficient environment friendly solutions before being discharged. Jar-test experiments are conducted in order to assess the efficiency of a tannin-based polymer (TBP) treatment these industrial wastewaters.The results indicate that TBP is more effective than classical coagulant iron chloride. Coagulation flocculation involving does not any coagulation pH adjustment, reduces 96% colour achieves 60, 65 87% COD removal from textile, paint wastewater respectively. Compared chloride, produces least amount sludge for given removed. It 28 60 % less volume FeCl3, generates good settling with lower values SVI (31- 80 ml g−1). Furthermore, allows 4 6.5% water recovery FeCl3. Utilisation such represents an important progress sustainable environmental technology as it renewable resource pollution load, adequate recovery.
